The Campaign documentary reviewed: "compelling, relevant, chilling, important"

"Directed by Kari Hollend and Cristina Bishai, and led by Canadian political strategist, lawyer and author Warren Kinsella, The Campaignexamines the information war that erupted alongside the physical war following the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023.

The central theme of the documentary is not what happened on October 7 itself, but what happened in the immediate aftermath. The film argues that the global reaction to October 7 – the protests praising Hamas, the instant vilification of Israel – was not spontaneous. It was the activation of a long-prepared infrastructure designed to reshape public perception of Israel and Jews.

Kinsella, who is not Jewish but has a long history of activism against racism, observed that the hatred that emerged after October 7 felt different, more organised, more global, as if “the wheels had been put in motion before the October 7 attack.” He even compared it to a political campaign – one designed to foster hatred against Jews.

With Kinsella as a guide, the documentary takes you on a worldwide journey from Hamas to Iran to the Muslim Brotherhood, and then onwards to Western universities and the social media sphere and its use of algorithms and bots.

The documentary shows how this is a battle that is fought across the globe and not just in the Middle East itself.

The most compelling and relevant elements of the film are the revelations about how the supposedly sophisticated algorithms of social-media platforms, including X, TikTok and YouTube, have been exploited to cultivate an atmosphere of hostility towards the Jewish state.

This matters.

...The documentary uses a large and varied range of commentators, ranging from former FBI agents and terrorism experts to social-media figures, communications strategists and cyber experts. This adds to the credibility of its message and exposes the very real danger of the information war currently going on...

Ultimately, this documentary is an important watch because it reveals another side of the conflict, away from the pictures and the videos and the talking heads of politicians and military leaders we see on our screens.

The Campaign is intended to be a companion piece to Kinsella’s book, The Hidden Hand: The Information War and the Rise of Antisemitic Propaganda (Penguin, May 2026), which goes into even more detail about the mechanisms of this information war.

The “hidden hand” from which the book takes its title, and which appears to be driving this campaign, refers to what is described in the book as an “unholy alliance of sorts” – comprising international legal and academic institutions, social-media platforms, terror groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, NGOs, politicians and even state actors.

The Campaign serves as both a warning and a challenge for society as a whole, because it raises issues well beyond Israel, Gaza or October 7."
