(Quite) out of Africa

Damn.
With much (much, much) regret, I have concluded I can't go to Kenya.
I'm not the least bit worried about catching something (I never get sick, with anything). My worry is getting there and then the Canadian government imposing travel restrictions. Which seems likelier in light of the above.
A three-week quarantine would be a bit of a disaster. During that three-week quarantine period, I've got screenings and speaking engagements in Australia, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and LA for my book and documentary. Some have been in the works for months, and I've rearranged everything - my work, the campaign - to accommodate them.
With the change in the Canadian government's position overnight, I just couldn't risk a lengthy stay in quarantine.
I am very disappointed. My bags are packed by the door, I got all my vaccinations and an Africa phone plan, the dog sitter was hired, etc. I was ready to go!
I hope I can get to Africa sometime soon - God knows I'm vaccinated! - but I mostly hope the people of Africa get past this terrible outbreak. They have suffered enough.
