Top Ten Bloggers - 2006

Warren loves top tens! Loves them! Here, for no particular reason and with no advance warning, are his Top Ten Bloggers in 2005.

  1. The Calgary Grit - Funny, prescient, perceptive. Far too young to be so smart. Got too interested in winning McClelland's contest, but we'll forgive him this time. Tops.

  2. Jordon Cooper - Jordon is decent, smart and fair. His struggles with health issues, this year, have made his blog even more remarkable than before. Writes about religion with conviction and knowledge. Smartest guy in Saskatchewan.

  3. Paul Wells - Paul is no fan of Yours Truly, to put it mildly. We've had our scraps in the past, and likely will in the future. He has had blinders on about certain enlightened occupants in the 2005 Liberal war room (although I suspect that is coming to a rapid end). All that notwithstanding, he is a gifted writer, he has not let cynicism overwhelm his passion for ideas (particularly R&D), and he does not follow the media pack. A star.

  4. Brett Lamb - Cartoons, wit, fun photography, film, music and not too much politics. This is the blog I aspire to be.

  5. All Things Christie - Finally! A woman! (And therein lies one of the blogosphere's greatest failings: it, like Parliament, remains a male preserve. THAT MUST CHANGE.) The Queen of Linkage. Understands the web better than anyone on Earth. Never sleeps.

  6. Andrew Spicer - Probably the best commentator on municipal affairs in Canada's largest municipality - and, unlike the windbags at the major Toronto dailies, he doesn't get paid for it. He's tragically, fundamentally mistaken on David Miller, but I've made a few political mistakes in my day, too. Smart cat.

  7. Zerb - Along with Christie, another compelling reason for greater gender balance in the blogosphere. She's also the best media critic in Canada. Her anti-Israelism is frustrating, sometimes, but she believes in giving opposing points of view a fair hearing. Which makes her decidedly unlike the newspaper she works for. Big time.

  8. Angry In The Great White North - He's a conservative, but he ain't all that angry, quite frankly. Sometimes (as in his ongoing series about my pal "Judge" John Gomery, who called me an "inexperienced political staffer") he is quite funny, actually. During the election, he's been breaking income trust stories like he's the friggin' ROB. Impressive. (I like Stephen Taylor too, by the way, for a lot of the same reasons.)

  9. Jason Cherniak - He is hopelessly, breathlessly devoted to Dithers. He thinks the Liberals are going to win a majority in this election. I suspect he also believes in the Easter Bunny. But he actually called me up, and asked if we could meet, and challenged me to my face - which makes him head-and-shoulders above the cowards and thugs who make up Martin's inner circle. Impressive young guy. Shame about the Martin thing, but we can't all be as perfect as Chretien was.

  10. Blogs Canada - Jim Elve is a saint. In exchange for no dough, and little thanks, he has become the benevolent, all-seeing deity of the Canadian blogosphere. Everyone knows him, everyone links to/is linked by him. A champ.
