Top Ten Bloggers

A year or so ago, I did a Top Ten blogger list. It was immediately and properly ignored by every normal person, but it became terribly important to bloggers, who are not normal (take me, for example). Because bloggers, notwithstanding the bleating and braying to the contrary, are obsessed with what people write about them. Obsessed, I tell you.

Here's some new stuff for them to fret about for a year. God bless them and keep them warm.

(Oh, and memo to Canada: WE NEED MORE SMART FEMALE BLOGGERS NOW!)
  1. The Daily Canuck - Part blog, part aggregator, the Daily Canuck is run by another member of the Alberta Liberal diaspora. In light of recent controversies - what some have called the "Newsbought" mess - Canuck has grown in credibility and influence. Looks purty, too.

  2. Andrew Coyne - Coyne's back! Shortly after this Top Ten list goes up, Andrew will probably go and do one of his patented Houdini-like disappearance acts, and vanish for a number of months. Until he does, he remains a wonderful writer and a great thinker - except when I disagree with him, naturally, and then my thinking is greater. Stay, Coyne, stay!

  3. The Calgary Grit - As I have written before, Dan's funny, prescient, perceptive. He came to my attention, and that of others, because he was willing to take on the orcs during The Dark Times (ie. Paul Martin's blessedly brief reign). There is a rumour that he is 12 years old, but I am sure that is not true. He's 14 if he's a day.

  4. Jordon Cooper - I adore Jordon, and I have never met him. I know him be decent and smart and fair. How do I know that? Because his blog is so honest and so good. He should be Prime Minister. He is also the smartest guy in Saskatchewan, and possibly in Canada.

  5. Paul Wells - Paul and I used to fight all the time, but now we've blog-kissed and made up. Icky image, I know, but the fact is that Wells is right most of the time - on Harper, on Martin, on Dion, on...well, everything but rock'n'roll. He's a jazz man, as you may have gleaned. Otherwise, a gifted writer, and one who does not follow the media pack.

  6. Lotus Land - Why aren't there more smart female bloggers, like Ainge? Why? Why do two of the most prominent female Canadian bloggers have to be crypto-fascists (and they're not so "crypto" about it, either, most days)? Why? She's Left Coast, she's Left, and she's a Righteous blogger! You go girl!

  7. Brett Lamb - You want cartoons? Lamb's got cartoons. You want wit and loadsa fun? He's got that, too. You want photography, film, music and not too much politics? This is the blog for you. And it's the blog I aspire to be. Still.

  8. Jason Cherniak - He shrugs when reporters call him a geek, and he grins when conservatives smear him. He's a gentle constant in the Canadian blogging galaxy, notwithstanding what the knuckle-draggers say about him. Was wrong a!out Martin, but made up for it with Dion.

  9. TDH - Like Jason (like me, too), he makes his mistakes right out there in the open, then 'fesses up to them. Passionate about the things he believes in, and his stuff doesn't read like talking points issued by party HQ (unlike most Tory bloggers, Taylor and Janke excluded). Another over-achieving youngster Grit, like Jason and Calgree Grit, and one who never plays it safe.
